BARBERSHOP MUSIC

Barbershop music is a style of a cappella close harmony derived from traditional quartet singing. Click HERE to watch and listen to barbershop music online.

The melody is sung by a "lead", supported primarily by a "bass" an octave or more below the melody.  The additional harmony parts are provided by a "tenor" above the melody and a "baritone" below.

QUARTETS AND CHORUS

The Oceanaires rehearse and perform as a chorus, but we also serve as the host to a number of barbershop quartets.

We are a member of the Far Western District of the Barbershop Harmony Society and participate annually in regional competitions.

The Santa Monica Oceanaires are a 501.C3 Charitable Organization, an official chapter of The Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), formerly known as The Society for the Preservation Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing In America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.A).
